This guide talks about how to manage redirect rules in your WordPress installation to help you ensure that page renames and old page links are handled appropriately when you’re making changes on your website.

Install the Redirection Plugin to Manage Redirects

If we haven’t done this for you already (I.E. If we did not build your site), you will need to install the Redirection plugin into your WordPress website. To do this, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Log into WordPress
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin
  3. Search ‘Redirection‘ and click Install
  4. Click Activate

Automatically Build Redirects for Page Permalink Changes

To activate automatic Redirect rule creation for any URL changes for specified post types in WordPress, you can follow these steps:

  1. Log into WordPress
  2. Go to Tools > Redirection > Options
  3. Under URL > URL Monitor, select:
    • Monitor changes to posts
    • Monitor changes to pages
  4. Click Save
