To set your website up for the best experience not only for you as an admin, but for your visitors as they utilize your site, you can follow the recommendations below to set up your installation.

These recommendations may affect your website experience or cause log files to show incorrect date and time stamps if improperly configured.

You will need to set up a few items in your installation to ensure that things are configured for your desired preferences.

  1. Go to Settings > General
  2. Set your Site Title and Tagline
  3. Set Your Site Icon (Favicon) – You can upload a square version of your logo for this. We recommend something that will appear just fine when shrunk down really small. View the example below
  4. Set your Administration Email Address, your New User Default Role, and your Timezone
  5. Set your Date Format, and Time Format, as well as Week Starts On
  6. Set up your permalinks as desired.
(To ensure that you are avoiding unnecessary work in the future, you may want to read our guide on How to Keep WordPress Permalinks From Changing When You Modify Posts.)
